Need to Choose vs. Choose to Need

Words often say more than we intend.

The word “need” carries a wide range of connotations. “I need you to listen.” “I need to do that.”

And often — whether consciously or subconsciously — we interpret that need as a deficit. A lack of something. A weakness.

I’ve been working on shifting my perspective by turning need into intention. “I’d like to tell you.” “I want to do that.”

Turning need into choice is empowering. It flips the script from without to within.

By viewing it as a choice, we place the power into our own hands.

Needs make us needy. Choice makes us powerful.
